Maternity Pictures!

Our friend and fellow SGU SO Sara was able to catch a few quick maternity pictures for us a couple weeks ago!
We have been so extremely busy every weekend that there was no time to fit in pictures, or so I thought.  Thankfully one early, freezing cold Friday morning Sara was able to meet us on the Windsor riverbank while we were on our way to Lee's parents in Canada for the weekend for our baby shower.  About 30 minutes out in the snow and Sara was able to capture some beautiful pictures that we'll forever cherish.  We decided to do it on the river to get the Detroit skyline in the background, as that will be baby's first home and where we have spent the past two years and made the decision to have this baby!!

If you're in the Windsor/Detroit area for the next couple months check Sara (sarawhitsittphotography.blogspot.com) out... after that she and her husband may be moving for residency too!  AND having their 2nd little one in May!

time for a change

I had a really hard time saying goodbye to my previous header.... I really, really loved it and was so proud that I made it.  I hope I can have it printed someday and put it on the cover of an album or something.  Someday when we can afford to print the millions of pictures I've taken in Grenada.
My "Grenada" folder on my computer has 15,000 images in it right now :/

hi Lee!

I'm sitting in the library on campus waiting on Lee to get out of his Bible study. 
I decided to come to campus with him at the last minute because he said we could eat out! haha yes!
and now I'm waiting on him to ride the bus home together. 
We had Subway!  yes there is a Subway in Grenada!! 3 actually.
It was not as good as home. but really, really good when you're thousands of miles away.
and not nearly as cheap. no $5 footlongs here!

Lee said earlier today that I was slacking on this blog.
humph.  I'll show him!

but I do love him and love that he actually reads my blog! haha

I found this old VW Van on the side of the road near town and so we went and did a vintagy little shoot. 
and Lee LOVES these pictures. haha so hi to Lee again.
except he said and I quote "That's YOU?? It looks really good..." as if it couldn't have possibly of been me.

Yachting

Who would have thought that my first (and only) professional modeling gig would be on a 12 million dollar yacht??
A friend asked me to model for a photo-shoot on a yacht.
and then mentioned that I would get paid.
who in their right mind would say no?!

The photos are to advertise the yacht for weekly rentals (which runs about $100,000 a week...not including food or drinks or tip for the staff!)

Luckily I also knew 2 of the other 'models' so I knew I was in for a fun day.

We spent about 10 hours on the yacht pretending to be rich and carefree, lounging in the sun, riding jet skis, and sipping champagne in the hot tub (ok I didn't sip anything... :/ although the $400bottle champagne was tempting!) but I did look like I was for some photos.

We sailed (do yachts sail??) or cruised around the southern end of the island to Calvingy Island (near La Phare Blue) to photograph the water sports.  Traveling around the area where we live by water was so awesome!  I had never seen the university or the little peninsula that we live on by water and I wish Lee could have been with me to see it too!

I even got to wear some designer dresses!!  The owner must not have thought Karla and I's wardrobe was acceptable for the "dining" shots so she offered to let us wear her things!  I wore a Dolce and Gabbana dress for the first and probably only time of my life and another designer that I can't recall right now... but probably cost more than my wedding dress.

The day ended back at the port with the most beautiful sunset I've seen in a long time. 
I didn't want the day to end!
and I'm happy to report that I didn't get sea sick at all!  I was so worried I'd throw up on their expensive carpet or something. haha

SGU from the water

indescribable.

I never want to be used to seeing the ocean.I want that feeling you get when you go to the beach for the first time in a year every single time. 
The sun warming your skin, the sound of the waves crashing, the feel of sand between your toes, the peace & awe of water as far as the eye can see.

I never want to be used to seeing buildings in a rainbow of colors, street side fruit stands, Rastafarians, and goats roaming.
Palm trees, bougainvillea bushes, cacti, and fruit trees.
Rainbows, iguanas, frangipani caterpillars, and sand dollars.

I never want to be used to the smell of spices and produce in the market, the unknowings of hoping in a Reggae bus, and sweet taste of a fresh smoothie.

I never want to be used to seeing children in stained clothes, without shoes, and wondering around with no supervision.  I never want to grow tired of hearing "Miss Kelsey!"

I never want to be able to understand the Grenadian accent or guess the weather.  It's part of the mystery.

I never want to take a sunset for granted.

Christmas Island

Our friend Ashley started a photography fundraiser (such a great idea!)
she used her fab skills to offer photography to students, faculty, and SOs and all the profits are going to The BelAir Home, Dorothy Hopkins Center, and PAM.
I couldn't pass this up... obviously.
Lee and I had Christmas Pictures done! 
on the beach. in shorts and barefoot of course.  and I may have done a little picniking
enjoy!!

Friday I had the opportunity to go up the north eastern coast of Grenada to what used to be Pearls Airport.  It has been abandoned since they built the new, much more convenient Maurice Bishop Int. Airport.
Pearls is about an hour away from the main tourist sections of Grenada, Grand Anse, St. George's etc. and also from SGU which would be terrible for students coming in and out of the country!
Maurice Bishop Airport opened in 1983, so before then Pearls is all the people had!

There are two cargo planes that have been left there for the last 30 years.  I was told they were American planes and they have some red, white, and blue painted on the side, but then I read on Wikipedia that they are Cuban planes (which is also red,white, and blue)
So I don't really know, but I know they had something to do with the 83 invasion of the US into Grenada.  The US invaded b/c they thought Grenada was in cahoots with Cuba and were building the new airport for / with them.

I got to do another photoshoot with yet again 3 photographers! My friend Ashley wasn't able to come this time, but a local photographer named Dwain came and we had a ton of fun.  I got to climb in the planes and act silly...

This was a much more natural look.. I only have on face powder and mascara!  I thought the last time I had on too much make up and it kind of made my eyes look funny.... but now I think I had on too little make up for this one. haha I need to meet in the middle.

Gisele Bundchen meets Taylor Swift.

A couple weeks ago I got to play model with 3, THREE photographers!
How crazy is that?
I have 3 friends here who are photographers and like to practice their skills and I agreed to be their model for the morning.  It was a lot of fun, although I wouldn't say I have a ton of natural modeling ability... haha. I'm pretty limited on facial expressions and posing. but I had good instructors and the pictures turned out awesome!!

It caused quite a stir on the streets of St. George's to see a girl all dressed up with crazy hair and make up posing in front of 3 photographers!  One guy stopped and asked where I was from & Amber replied "Brazil" and he was like oooo who is she, and she said "Gisele Bundchen"
hahaha. and I think he have believed her.

Ashley's vision of the photo shoot was inspired by a Taylor Swift shoot. so here goes my attempt at channeling Taylor Swift.
