Residency confusion.

Today Lee is off on an interview at the University of Indiana in Indianapolis. Thankfully this was another interview he could drive to, it's about 4 1/2 hours away.
I can't wait to hear all about it tonight when he gets home!  This is his 3rd actual interview, and at this point he's been offered 20... we're going through deciding where is the best use of our money to fly to interview and what not.  Sunday he flies down to Florida to do a couple..... leaving me alone in cold Michigan. :/

People continue to be totally clueless and ask a million questions about the residency process.  I don't blame them, it's pretty difficult to understand if you're not living it every day.  But people assume that since Lee's going on interviews that these individual hospitals are going to offer him jobs.... complete with "offers"
Not so much.  I try my hardest to explain that we won't know anything until March.  We rank the places he interviews at in order of where we'd like to go most, they rank the students in order of who they want the most, and a computer literally "matches" us to a program.  We don't have final say.

Here is a pretty good explanation of the process if you're really interested http://b83c73bcf0e7ca356c80-e8560f466940e4ec38ed51af32994bc6.r6.cf1.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/NRMP-Match-Process-Run-a-Match-Match-Logo.pdf

And I should note that not all hospitals have residency programs!  People ask why we aren't moving home.... well that particular hospital doesn't have residents!  That's reason #1.

Also, not all residency programs are created equal.  Some are university based (ie OSU Medical Center in Columbus), some are at really well known hospitals (ie The Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic), some are university affiliated (ie St. John's Hospital here is affiliated with Wayne St. U. but doesn't have a whole lot to do with the actual school or medical school), some are brand new this year, some have great  reputations, some have poor reputations, some take international medical graduates (IMGs) and some only take American students.... there are LOTS of factors.
This was not an easy decision.
So when you ask why didn't apply more places close to family, the reason is we wanted Lee to have the best opportunities for the best training and education.  And it doesn't hurt to go to an awesome program and have it look good for your career. Get me?

This year we find out on March 17th IF Lee matches to a residency.  March 21st we find out WHAT program he matches to.  If we find out on Monday that he didn't match then we have that week to scramble around and try to find a hospital, any hospital, with an open spot and beg them to take us.

Ah, I agree it is confusing.  If we weren't in this situation I would know nothing about it either.  They don't teach you all this stuff on Grey's Anatomy.

In other news,
Things with me are the same, I spent a lot of time over the weekend working on some nursery projects and I've decided to revive my old decorating blog for the occasion :)

completely off topic...

but.
this nursery literally made me swoon

I found it over at one of my favorite blogs Design Dazzle.
I MUST have a walpapered ceiling!  with birds! ah!
I even if I never have a baby.... a room in my house will have a wallpapered ceiling.
and a wallpapered closet.
for some reason that's always been a dream of mine too.  a really loud/bold wallpapered closet.
bursting full of clothes and shoes!
why have I never done it??
ugh.
because you'd have to take everything out of the closet first I suppose.
whenever Lee and I have a REAL house that will be first on my list.
and Lee will be so annoyed.

Christmas Decor!

as I said in a previous post...
a very Kelsey Christmas is homemade, pink, sparkly, and overdone.

The only thing I love more than Christmas decorations is making them!!

we have 3 little trees in our little apartment.
1. A Grenada tree - I bought it this summer at a yard sale for $1 and decorated it with sand dollars, and other Grenada things
2. A little white tree - my friend Michelle mailed it to me with decorations & it's on our table
3. A 4 foot tree - I found it downtown St. George's for $12ec!! so I had to buy it and decorate it like I'd decorate a tree at home, and this one has lights!

We didn't have a nativity so I made one out of clay I bought at the stationary store!

Believe it or not, I have more!  I have just yet to take pictures of some things I've added today!
My friend Amber sent me a box with EVEN MORE Christmas stuff!!!

Happy Halloween!!

For the past few years I have had a party to go to on Halloween, either at home at Ellen and Aaron's or the Beaux Arts Ball at MVNU... this year however. no party. unless you count the kids fall fest or the party at the local bar, neither of which excited me.
so I had my own!

mind you I live in a less than 400sq ft apartment. so I could only invite like 5 people.  just enough chairs for everyone. lol

I wanted a party to dress up and decorate and eat!!
so that is what we did :)

welcome to my party!
I'm a watermelon smoothie. duh
 Lee is thinking Arby's
Decorations!!

the pop bottles are my favorite! & I came up with it all on my own, no google or blog inspiration. haha
just a little electrical tape, nail polish, and twine. and wa-la!

The food!!

scary pizza.

bones and blood.... aaahhhh
witches brew. with a frozen hand.

I will update on my other blog soon about all the "how to"

Halloween is so fun!

website.

last term my friend Amber made a wix website, as recommended by Alfonso, and it turned out awesome!
and when I got sick for those two weeks & had nothing to do, I made one too!!
It was so much fun and I worked furiously on it for two weeks.... and then once I got better, I forgot about it!  That is until last week when I was typing something & it popped up on my history, or frequently viewed pages or something... so I've decided to show it to the world!
It was pretty hard to do actually.... I started with a blank site and added everything myself, so I'm pretty proud of myself.
please note that I have nothing at this point in my life to advertise or sell.... this is just for fun!and still a work in progress.  I have so many other things to add!!
One sweet day I will have an even more impressive website chocked full of all my fabulous design and art work and probably my full page spreads in Elle Decor.
:)

Here is my website http://kelseycoghill.co.nr/

& my awesome photographer bff Amber's  http://ambergazo.co.nr/

Let me know what you think!!

*edit - fixed some broken links on the site... hopefully will get all the kinks worked out!

Craft Day!

I got sun burnt the other day so I decided to take a break from the beach and stay home and do stuff to make it feel a bit more home-y here and occupy my time.
So I'll share my projects...
I started with this magazine.

and folded it kinda like the Christmas trees people make out of readers digest

and made wall sconces or shelves or something.... at least they're colorful

I went the library to use their paper cutter to cut strips of magazine for another project... I felt a little silly cutting up magazines while everyone else in their was studying, but oh well. It worked great. and I found some regular books in there... not just books about medicine. So I will be checking that out again soon.
I weaved the magazine strips into a little basket!

and then I drew a tree

this is our room... and that little "night stand" is actually our suitcases stacked on each other with a scarf I bought in New York over top... not too fancy. but it will do. I like the room better with the blinds up because the windows look like pictures because the view is so beautiful.  the rest of the room is a mess with my "crafting" so I'll post more pictures later.
