2 years and counting...

Monday Lee and I celebrated 2 years of marriage!
It is true what they say.... the older you get the faster time flies.
I need time to slooooowwww down. even slower than island time.
I just want to revel in life - spend time with God, love Lee, take in the beautiful nature in Grenada, hold tight to the precious little children at Limes and the orphanages, and just be.
I will say that the past two years have been nothing less than interesting.  From our honeymoon in Mexico, to living in West Virginia for a few months, to taking off on a plane to the unknown island of Grenada.
Marriage requires a lot of trust.  I have trusted this man with my life and our future, and so far so good :)
My facebook status from Monday read - "they say the first few years of marriage are the hardest, then you add medical school, unemployment, a 350 sq ft apartment, and life on a crazy island thousands of miles away from family and friends to the mix.... and your relationship not only survives, but flourishes then you picked the right one!! Happy 2nd anniversary Lee Coghill! Thank you for this crazy, wonderful life!"

and my Lee's said - "Happy Anniversary to my best friend and partner Kelsey Coghill. 2 years of med school hasn't been easy, but everyday is better when I can come home to you!  Thanks for being the best wife a guy could ask for."

I'll admit I almost teared up a bit.  He usually isn't too emotional or expressive on facebook, not that the whole world needs to know, but it is kinda nice to hear those words in public setting sometimes... would you agree?

Needless to say from both of our posts medical school + marriages isn't an easy road.  You don't get to spend a lot of quality time together and life is stressful.  But it is doable!  Every single day we along with dozens of other SGU couples are making it work and someday soon it is all going to be worth it.

We had a very low key anniversary this year.  No fancy dinner and no dressing up (although I think we will be doing that soon :) AND I did convince Lee to take me to the Tobago Cays by saying it would be for our anniversary)
We were tiiiiired on Monday.  Lee spent the morning in the hospital doing examinations (in long sleeves, pants, AND his white coat with no AC) & then class all afternon & I had an SO meeting, spent some time at the pool, and then visited Queen Elizabeth Home (more about QE later!!) & yes the pool is tiring!

I am so thankful and so blessed to have Lee in my life and believe it or not, I love him so much more today than I could have ever imaged 2 years ago on our wedding day... and I think he feels the same ♥

We ate left overs and watched the sunset... then attempted to make cotton candy together - Lee's idea and gift of "cotton" to me for the 2nd anniversary.  I gave him my homemade pillow case with his name embroidered on it.  Read more about our gifts on my other blog here.

lucky in love

I love my husband so much.
I have been blessed with one of the best.

It makes my heart so happy when he takes time out of his busy studying to come to Limes with me.  He comes about once a week, and the kids love it (so do I)
not only does he make an excellent jungle gym and love interest for some of the little girls, but he helps so so much with discipline.  He isn't mean to the kids, but he helps with the general 'wrangling in' of all the kids and he makes them behave.
I wish he could come every time!

thanks Ashley Willis for this picture :)

On a side note, congratulations to my amazing parents on their 40th Wedding Anniversary!! I am so lucky to have two parents who are still so very much in love with each other that it is sometimes gross :)

My parents when they were 14 & 16!! They had already been dating for 2 years at this point!! What an incredible love story :)

18 and 20 when they got married in 1970.

and last year with me at my college graduation :)

5 years down.

Today Lee and I have officially been together as a couple for 5 whole years!!!
When we were dating we never broke up, not even for an hour, a major accomplishment for my dating record.  We made it through our year long engagement with me only giving the ring back once, and only for about 20 minutes..... and we have survived a very interesting first year of marriage, through several meltdowns!

5 years! that just seems like a lot to me.... something worth celebrating!
except he has midterms this week so I have only seen him for a brief few minutes here and there.
5 years ago we DREAMED of the day when we could live together and play house, and now reality has given us a wake up call... medical school doesn't take a break for anniversaries. not for 1yr married and not for 5yrs dating. :(

we were only 18 and 17 when we met.... first day of school our freshman year at MVNU.
and it only took him 2 months to convince me to date him.... haha. and I'm so glad I gave in!!  I was sooooo close to not giving him a chance, seriously.  Lee jokes that it took me several months after we were dating before I liked him... and a while before I loved him.  but that's not entirely true..... and when I did fall in love with him I fell hard, and knew without a shadow of doubt that he was who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
and I am!!! right now. this very moment.... I am spending my life with Lee Coghill.

I went up to the library after the Limes After School Program to surprise Lee with a happy 5yrs smoothie, and we sat on a bench over looking the ocean....
5 years ago, we went for a walk in the "grove" the park on our college campus and sat on a bench near the 'reflection pond' (a cement pond with a fountain) and officially became, offical :)

these pictures are from our first couple months of dating
these pictures were all taken on October 11th, our anniversary except for the 1st and last picture.
I'll have to take a picture when Lee gets home tonight...

One Year Anniversary!!

this past Sunday Lee and I celebrated one year of marriage!  amazing how time flies!!
we weren't able to celebrate much on Sunday because Lee had exams on Monday and Tuesday... but we still made a little time for each other and had a really nice day. and celebrated again on Tuesday.

we were unable to bring our wedding cake with us to have for the traditional one year anniversary, so I made my own little cake and tried to decorate it to look as close to the original as I could.  It was delicious too! I also made pasta, which is what we ate at our wedding.... so what if we had to wait until 10 oclock at night when Lee came home to eat it.

On Tuesday when Lee finished his exam we went to the beach, which sadly was the worst beach day since we've been here.  every time Lee gets time to go to the beach its never sunny.
But we still had fun, Lee just took off running into the water while it was pouring the rain!  The water felt soooo warm while it was raining, it was like bathwater! and we were the only people crazy enough to be on the beach!
and of course we stopped for smoothies before hand!!

On Tuesday evening my friend Ashely who is teaching herself photography (and is incredible!) did a 'one year anniversary photo shoot' with us!  She was looking for someone to practice on & I thought we should get pictures taken since the 1 year is the paper anniversary... and I wanted some nice pictures taken in Grenada.  She is still editing them, but she posted a few on her blog so I could get a preview!! I love the way these few turned out & can't wait to see more!!! Ashley's Blog!
